I had a great discussion with Dan LaCivita from Play.
Most design tools we use now are desktop tools. But we are increasingly in a mobile world. So why don’t our design tools allow us to use the medium we’re designing for? That is the question Dan from Play began exploring with his other co-founders. As design software has continued to evolve, we need to be closer to the actual medium and the materials of that medium.

How the A.I. revolution is liberating workers from the return to the office
This isn’t a new topic, but seems to pop up more frequently in things I’m reading and people I’m talking to. Companies, executives, and some managers are pushing for more in-office work, while employees are rightly pushing back. Will AI tools be the answer?
Knowledge workers are adamant that they are doing their jobs effectively at home, and data supports the improved productivity of remote work. But many leaders feel concerned about a range of issues, from problematic communication and coordination to cybersecurity, which they feel remote work undermines.
However, with the advent of generative A.I., we are on the cusp of realizing the full potential of remote and hybrid work by reducing–while not eliminating–the benefits of office visits.
Microsoft says it will take the heat if Copilot AI commercial users get sued
Legal and ethical responsibility for AI is an interesting topic. Especially as AI becomes more ubiquitous and eventually more autonomous. Microsoft is front-running some of these issues by taking responsibility for their AI products:
“If a third party sues a commercial customer for copyright infringement for using Microsoft’s Copilots or the output they generate, we will defend the customer and pay the amount of any adverse judgments or settlements that result from the lawsuit, as long as the customer used the guardrails and content filters,” Smith wrote.
Microsoft and Paige Are Building A Cancer-Detecting AI
One of the most exciting areas of AI is the ability to use it to treat disease. And that’s what Paige and Microsoft have teamed up to do. They’ve already made significant progress, so we’ll see how this continues to progress:
Paige is developing with Microsoft a new AI model that is orders-of-magnitude larger than any other image-based AI model existing today, configured with billions of parameters. This model assists in capturing the subtle complexities of cancer and serves as the cornerstone for the next generation of clinical applications and computational biomarkers that push the boundaries of oncology and pathology.
Soon You’ll Be Zooming in Roblox
I find this fascinating. My kids, both avid Roblox players, currently use some interesting workarounds to do video calls and play games at the same time. So being able to do all of this on a single platform makes sense to me, and would be what I would have developed working at Roblox.
The feature, which is called Roblox Connect, will run on any device that already runs Roblox, provided that device has a camera. The feature uses 3D-animated avatars, not photorealistic video, and will place people in virtual spaces rather than showing their real-life backgrounds.
Applying a Product Mindset to Your Career and Job Search
The fall surge may actually be happening in technology. Maybe you’ve seen an increase in interest, or maybe you’re active in the job market. Either way, you’ll benefit from applying a Product Mindset to your career and your job search
Looking for a new role can be intimidating. Especially because the reasons you’re looking for a new role most likely stem from something wrong at your existing role. Whether you’re feeling underappreciated, unrecognized, overworked, burned out, or simply ready to grow and need to move to take that next step, you are moving into the unknown.
Good Design Everywhere
Good design isn’t just about software, but about everything in our lives. I think about design in my own town, and how bad it is in so many places. We often have people speeding through certain places because how the roads are designed. So this video is a great example of how incorporating design into everything eliminates the need for signs and police etc.

Visily
I mentioned I was using UIzard last week. I’ve been experimenting with another tool, Visily, this week for another project. I also joined the waitlist for their AI version, which will let me describe what I want and have Visily generate the screens. Hopefully I’ll have an update on that in the future, but for now, I’ve been impressed.
