Podcast
Curt has worked with brands like Harley Davidson and Nike, and we discuss the lessons he’s learned—such as the importance of embracing constraints, being authentic and creating user experiences that consider everything from the first time a user encounters a brand or a product all the way through to the end. We also discuss the importance of all stakeholders, from customers to employees to society at large, and how we can design across the multi-stakeholder landscape.
News and Useful Reads
The Mobile Revolution vs. The AI Revolution
I was talking to a CEO and founder this week, and we actually were discussing how the AI revolution is somewhere between the mobile revolution and the internet. So it intrigued me when I stumbled on this article making a similar argument. I also listened to a presentation comparing AI to a calculator, though I like the idea of it being somewhere more akin to a brain.
the AI Revolution isn’t comparable to the Mobile Revolution, as the latter was more a distribution revolution. Rather, AI is more comparable to the dawn of the internet. Or, more fundamentally, AI is an even larger-scale technology shift—it’s the dawn of a new discrete revolution that’s built not around computers acting like calculators, but computers acting like the human brain.
Nearly half of CEOs believe that AI not only could—but should—replace their own jobs
100 percent of their employees agree.
Sarcasm aside, no role is immune to new technology, not even those at the top (or maybe especially those at the top).
“Success in the CEO role hinges on effective leadership, and AI can liberate time for this crucial aspect of their role,” Andy Morgan, Head of edX for Business comments on the findings.
Rewind Pendant
I’ll admit, I’m 100% excited about this. I need to refer back to things that I said all the time, so I have to take notes or it will be lost. Whether a task for my job or an idea. So being able to record and transcribe continually is absolutely my jam. Yes, I’ve seen the Black Mirror episode, but actually think that having technology that helps us remember will actually do a lot of good (as we are able to balance the harms).
Google is opening up its generative AI search experience to teenagers
Google is opening its generative AI search experience to teenagers, the company announced on Thursday. The company is also introducing a new feature to add context to the content that users see, along with an update to help train the search experience’s AI model to better detect false or offensive queries.
Meta's Llama 2 Long AI Model Stuns with Next-Level Responses, Outperforming Rivals
A problem with many of the LLMs currently is that their understanding breaks down with very large queries. The long the input, the more likely that the information will get lost. But we’re rapidly seeing that problem go away.
At their annual Meta Connect event in California, the social media giant introduced "Llama 2 Long," an advanced AI model that promises to generate coherent and relevant responses to exceptionally long user queries.
It will be exciting to see each company continue to tackle this.
