I’ve had The Lean Product Playbook on my shelf (literally) since around the time it came out. And haven’t read it all the way through until now. That almost feels like a heresy for a product person, so I’ll admit it was past time for me to pull it off the shelf and give it a read.
I was not disappointed. While some examples in the book are a little dated, the core principles and process are as timeless as the day they were written.
As you can probably tell from the title, it is based on The Lean Startup methodology, which is all about building products incrementally and iteratively, while getting feedback from customers and users throughout the process.
This really is a playbook for building products that customers will enjoy using and that will be successful in the market and for your business.
So let’s dive in:
Overview
The book is broken into three sections:
Core Concepts—introducing an overview of the book
The Lean Product Process—walking through all the steps from customer problem to viable solutions
Building and Optimizing Your Product—how to use different methodologies to build, and the importance of metrics and analytics to measure success
Key Takeaways
Product-Market Fit Pyramid
