AI Is Eliminating Jobs for Younger Workers
Getting a job after graduating college has not been easy for over a decade. But it seems like AI is, in fact, making it even more difficult.
Economists at Stanford University have found the strongest evidence yet that artificial intelligence is starting to eliminate certain jobs. But the story isn’t that simple: While younger workers are being replaced by AI in some industries, more experienced workers are seeing new opportunities emerge.
Taco Bell is having second thoughts about relying on AI at the drive-through
And yet, when I feel like despairing because AI seems to be responsible for fewer jobs and opportunities, I remember that it often can’t even do an entry-level job very well.
Taco Bell’s chief digital officer says the company is having an “active conversation” about when to use and not use AI.
Older developers are down with the vibe coding vibe
It does seem like more experienced employees lean heavily on AI though. In a recent survey, senior developers use AI tools far more than younger developers. Partly because they have more to do in general, and partly because they can create code faster and have the experience to validate it.
For those who thought AI vibe coding was just for the youngsters, newly published research shows that developers with over 10 years of experience are more than twice as likely to do it.
Bland, easy to follow, for fans of everything: what has the Netflix algorithm done to our films?
When preferences are driven by algorithms, tastes tend to homogenize, and art takes a backseat to mass appeal.
Algorithm movies usually exhibit easy-to-follow story beats that leave no viewer behind; under this regime, exposition is no longer a screenwriting faux pas. A recent n+1 article revealed that screenwriters who work with Netflix often receive the note: “Have this character announce what they’re doing so that viewers who have this programme on in the background can follow along.”

Hawaiian pizza was invented in Canada
Many people get upset at the idea of Hawaiian pizza. I’ve never understood that and have always enjoyed all types of pizza toppings, including pineapples. But apparently it wasn’t created in Hawaii, but Canada.
